Yesterday at about 10:30 p.m. deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a red Honda Civic for a lighting violation on Hazelgreen Road NE. Once the deputy initiated the traffic stop the vehicle immediately took off and lead the deputy on a pursuit over several miles throughout Marion County.
During the pursuit deputies observed the driver and passenger switch places while driving down the roadway. The pursuit took deputies through portions of rural Marion County and then finally back toward Salem where the Salem Police Department deployed spike strips, flattening the vehicles tires.
After the tires on the vehicle deflated deputies attempted to PIT the vehicle but missed and a short distance later the vehicle crashed into a tree in the 2900 block of Tide Court NE. Once the vehicle crashed one of the three occupant's attempted to run but was quickly apprehended.
All three occupants of the vehicle were taken to Salem Hospital where they have been treated and released. The first driver of the car, Joann Wills, age 40, was booked into the Marion County Jail for Attempt to Elude (Vehicle), Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Reckless Endangering and several warrants. The Second driver Shawn Woddard, age 41 was book into the Marion County Jail for Attempt to Elude, (Vehicle), Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Reckless Endangering and several warrants. The third passenger was released without charges.
