On April 20th at approximately 7:00 a.m., deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office were called to the 4500 block of Harlan Drive NE in Salem. Neighbors reported that a silver Chrysler 300 had driven through multiple yards and then rolled several times before landing back on its tires.

The driver of the vehicle later identified as Hector Tavares, age 20, of Salem ran from the scene but quickly returned and drove the vehicle away. Mr. Tavares drove the vehicle from Harlan Drive to the 4500 block of Janice Ave NE where he parked the car and again ran on foot.

Deputies learned that the vehicle Mr. Tavares was driving had been stolen from a party by Mr. Tavares. After wrecking the car Mr. Tavares ran to his girlfriend's house to hide. The girlfriend, Michelle Garcia-Elias, age 23, of Salem hid Mr. Tavares at her residence and then later drove him to his residence, helping him escape capture from responding law enforcement.

Mr. Tavares and Ms. Garcia-Elias are being sought by deputies on numerous criminal charges associated to the incident. The pair may be driving a black Chrysler 300 and both live in the Salem area. If you know the whereabouts of either suspect please call the Marion County Sheriff's Office at 503-588-5032, you can remain anonymous.
