Earlier this morning, deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to a suicidal man in the 5800 block of Silverton Road NE. At the time of call it was determined that the male was not a danger to the public so deputies elected to avoid contact with him as to not force any tactical situations.
Sometime later the male left his residence and began firing shots near his home. Deputies used the man's cellular phone to locate him at a park near the Wheatland Ferry. After finding the man a short pursuit ensued sending deputies and police officer's to the dead end of Matheny Road NE. Two of the man's tires were deflated by spike strips during the pursuit.
Officers with the Salem Police Department, Keizer Police Department and the Oregon State Police are on scene and assisting with the standoff. Marion County SWAT and its negotiators are on scene and are working with the man for a peaceful resolution.
